PREMIERE OF NEW WORK:
Carnival 2 is a new work by Peter White written to compliment Saint-Saens famous and much loved Carnival of the Animals. Scored for identical forces and following roughly the same format (Introduction, 12 ‘animal’ movements and Finale), the first performance will take place in Holy Trinity Church, Guildford on March 20th 2013. Written for Jan Newman and her pupils at RGS Guildford, the initial idea for the work came soon after the RGS had performed the original Carnival at St. John’s, Smith Square in 2010. At that performance, different pianists played each movement and the same will be true with the new work. The Swan is the only animal to feature in both works; in the new version it appears alongside such beasts as Jellyfish, Soldier Ants and Commuters!
